Jacob Scott Abshire
Hargrave High School (Huffman, TX)
Graduation Year: 2009
Selected as a recipient of the 2008-2009 State Farm® Texas Scholar Athlete program scholarship, Jacob is ranked third in his class of 207 students and is a member of the HargraveHigh School football, basketball and tennis teams.In addition to a perfect GPA, his academic accomplishments include maintaining straight A’s and being ranked in the top 1.5 % of his class throughout high school.Additionally, he was vice president of his sophomore class, was elected "Most Outstanding Male" in 10th and 11th grades, was voted "Most Admired" of the Senior Class and is a member of the Student Council.His athletic accolades include being named All-Academic District Team for football and basketball and serving as head referee for the school Dodgeball Tournament.Jacob’s extracurricular activities include membership in the Future Business Leaders of America, the Hargrave High School UIL Ready Writing Team, and the Huffman Nine (a Senior Class organization); he is also lead sports anchor and scriptwriter for the school news show and head coach for the powder-puff football team. Additionally, he served as a school representative for the Hugh O’Brian Youth leadership conference, and as president of the Student Council summer workshop. Outside of school, he plays acoustic guitar in the worship band at Crosby Church, is a co-worship leader for the Christian Student Union and is active in a number of church volunteer programs, such as the Special Olympics, Vacation Bible School, Christmas and Thanksgiving food basket delivery and post-hurricane community clean-up. Upon graduation, Jacob plans to pursue a degree in business at Texas A&M, where he was recently accepted.

Ana Karen Arreola
Center Point High School (Center Point, TX)
Graduation Year: 2009
Selected as a recipient of the 2008-2009 State Farm® Texas Scholar Athlete program scholarship, Ana is currently ranked first in her class of 42 students and is a member of the Center Point High School softball, basketball, volleyball and track teams. In addition to a perfect GPA, her academic achievements include the “A” Honor Roll and being named National Honor Society President. Her many athletic accolades include, for her freshman year: 2nd Team All-District for Softball; for her sophomore year: Honorable Mention for Softball, Honorable Mention for Basketball, Academic All-District for Volleyball, Academic All-District for Basketball, Academic All-District for Softball, and 1st Team All-District for Softball; for her junior Year: Honorable Mention for Volleyball, Academic All-District for Volleyball, Academic All-District for Basketball, Academic All-District for Softball, 2nd Team All-District for Basketball, and 1st Team All-District for Softball. She has also received the Softball Spirit Award, the Basketball Spirit Award and has been named Cheerleader of the Year. Additionally, she is a Student Council Representative, president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Yearbook Editor and a member of the Key Club and Spanish Club. Her previous extracurricular activities include serving as president of her freshman and sophomore classes, FFA Senior Chapter Conducting Team President (grades 9-11), Student Council Secretary (grade 11) and FCA Secretary (grade 11). Outside of school, she is active in church volunteer service opportunities. Upon graduation, Ana plans to attend the University of Texas and major in communications.

Austin Humphries Benesh
Dripping Springs High School (Dripping Springs, TX)
Graduation Year: 2009
Selected as a recipient of the 2008-2009 State Farm® Texas Scholar Athlete program scholarship, Austin is currently ranked second in his class of 306 students and is a member of the Dripping Springs High School tennis team.In addition to attaining a perfect GPA, his academic accomplishments include the Dripping Spring ISD Educational Foundation Top 5% Award (grades 9-11), the Dripping Spring High School Academic Excellence Award (grades 10-11) and membership in the Spanish Honor Society. Additionally, he is a three-year member of the District 25 4-A Champion DSHS UIL Number Sense Team (Team Captain in grade 11), served as delegate to the June 2007 Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Conference, was a Central Texas Delegate to HOBY World, and served as a delegate to American Legion Boys' State in Austin (2008). A four-year member and current captain of the varsity tennis team, Austin’s athletic accolades include District 25-4A Varsity Singles Champion (grade 11), District 25-4A Junior Varsity Singles Champion (grade 9), All-District 1st Team (grade 11), All-District 2nd Team (grade10), All-District Academic Athlete (grades 9-11), Team Most Valuable Player (grade 11) and US Tennis Association "Super Champion" Rating (grades 9 and 11). Additionally, he is a four-year member and current drum major of the DSHS band, Class Representative on Band Council (grades 9, 11), received Superior Rating Class 1 Ensemble and advanced to the state competition (grade 11). Outside of school, Austin is an active member of the Sunset Canyon Baptist Church where he is active in the youth group and youth choir, served as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School and participated in several church/youth choir mission trips. Upon graduation, Austin would like to attend Duke University with plans to major in political science and minor in economics.

Ryan Bradley Cheek
Buffalo High School (Buffalo, TX)
Graduation Year: 2009
Selected as a recipient of the 2008-2009 State Farm® Texas Scholar Athlete program scholarship, Ryan is currently ranked fourth in his class of 49 students and is a member of the Buffalo High School football team.His many academic achievements include: the IPC award (grade 9), Geography award (grade 9), Commended TAKS Reading (grade 9), A/B honor roll (grades 9-12), Biology Award (grade 11), Computer Science Award (grade 11), History Award (grade 11), Commended TAKS Scores in English and Social Studies (grades 10-11), Commended TAKS Scores in Science (grade 11), VFW Essay Award (grade 10), History Award (grade 10), and the Spanish II award (grade 10).
Additionally, his UIL academic competition accolades include: UIL Social Studies Team, 1st place (grade 10), 3rd Place UIL Individual Social Studies team (grade 10), UIL Social Studies Team, 2nd Place at Regionals (grade 10), UIL One Act Play (OAP) Honorable Mention (grades 9,10), UIL OAP Zone All-Star Cast (grade 11), UIL OAP District Honorable Mention (grade 11), UIL OAP Area All-Star Cast (grade 11),UIL OAP Regional All-Star Cast (grade 11), UIL OAP State Honorable Mention (grade 11), UIL OAP State Qualifying Play (grade 11), UIL Lincoln-Douglas (LD) Debate, 4th place individual (grade 11), and UIL LD Debate, 1st Place District Team (grade 11). He is a three-year member and the current president of the National Honor Society and also served as National Honor Society Historian (grade 11). Ryan is a four-year member of the school football team (junior varsity in grades 9-10, and varsity in grades 11-12), he was named All-District for football and also participated in JV track and field his freshman year. Additionally, Ryan is Student Council President and a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has also been active in the Cinco de Mayo program (grades 9-11), Spanish Club (grades 9-11), Drug Free Week Parade (grades 9-11), Band (grades 9-10), Drama Club (grades 10- 11), Teen Summit Drug Free Awareness Group (grades 10-11), and Shattered Dreams (grade 11). Outside of school, he is an active member of the First Baptist Church Youth Group and has been involved in numerous church and school volunteer projects including the church New Orleans Mission Trip to help Hurricane Katrina victims, Drug Free Week and the school food drive. His employment activity includes working for Craftmasters Powder Coating and Partnership in a lawn service company. Upon graduation, Ryan plans to attend Sam Houston State University with the intention of obtaining a teaching certificate and joining the Peace Corps to teach abroad.

Catherine Leubner
Big Spring High School (Big Spring, TX)
Graduation Year: 2009
Selected as a recipient of the 2008-2009 State Farm® Texas Scholar Athlete program scholarship, Catherine is currently ranked sixth in her class of 233 students and is a member of the Big Spring High School cross country and track and field teams. In addition to attaining a perfect GPA, she has been named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students and Who’s Who Among American High School French Students, received an Outstanding Rating in the 2007 Foreign Language Festival, is an AP/Concurrent Student, and achieved commended performance on all TAKS Tests. A four-year member of the varsity track team and a three-year member of the varsity cross country team, her athletic accolades include: two-time Cross Country All-District, 2006 Cross Country District Champion, two-time Cross Country Regional Qualifier, three-time Track All-District, and three-time Track Regional Qualifier. In 2008, she completed the AT&T Marathon in Austin. Additionally, she is president of the National Honor Society, and is a member of the French Club (2006-2009) and the Student Council (2006-2009); she has also participated in the Big Spring High School Band (2005-2007) and the Key Club (2005-2006). Outside of school, she is active in various church activities and volunteer programs such as the Hillcrest Baptist Youth Group and Church Choir, and the First Methodist Church Living Christmas Tree Choir. Her volunteer work includes a summer missionary trip to Tokyo, Japan in July 2008, participation in Keep Big Spring Beautiful, recreation leader for Vacation Bible School (2004-2008), and leader of summer Bible studies for elementary children (2006-2008). Also, she was selected by her local Rotary Club to participate in Camp RYLA 2008, and served as a volunteer aide at the Dora Roberts Rehabilitation Center in 2008. Catherine is Red Cross certified in basic life support and CPR and her employment activity includes lifeguarding at the Big Spring YMCA and City Pool. Upon graduation Catherine plans to attend university and major in sports science with the intention of earning a master’s degree in physical therapy and starting a practice specializing in athletic rehabilitation. Award was presented on behalf of the Texas State Farm® Agents by Larry Hollar of Big Spring.

Travis Gregg Tomek
Bay City High School (Bay City, TX)
Graduation Year: 2009
Selected as a recipient of the 2008-2009 State Farm® Texas Scholar Athlete program scholarship, Travis is currently ranked seventh in a class of 278 students and is a member of the Bay CityHigh School baseball and football teams.In addition to taking the most rigorous curriculum available at Bay CityHigh School to include many dual-credit, pre-AP and AP courses, Travis’ academic accomplishments include induction into the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society.A four-year starter in the outfield for the Bay CityHigh School baseball team, Travis also earned All-District Honors in 2007 as a starting pitcher and has won three playoff games as pitcher during his career.Additionally, he is the team captain and a three-year starter for the Blackcat football team; starting in the defensive secondary his sophomore and junior seasons and earning the starting quarterback role in 2008. Off the field, he is a three-year member of Interact (current president), two-year member of the National Honor Society (current president), four-year member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, three-year member of the Pure Love Club, two-year member of Teens for Humanity, and a current member of the Matagorda Hospital District Student Governing Board.Outside of school, he is a member of the Lifeteen Youth Group and is active in numerous volunteer activities, such as: VacationBibleSchool (elementary aide), the Rice Festival Exceptional Kids Day, the Junior Service League Charity Ball, the EDGE Student Mentor Program, and the Holy Cross Fall Festival Dinner.Upon graduation, Travis plans to attend medical school at either TexasA&MUniversity or BaylorUniversity with the goal becoming a family practitioner. At some point in his career, he would like to do missionary work while continuing to be active in the local church.

Grant Thomas Van De Casteele
Liberty High School (Plano, TX)
Graduation Year: 2009
Selected as a recipient of the 2008-2009 State Farm® Texas Scholar Athlete program scholarship, Grant is currently ranked fourth in his class of 292 students and is a member of the Centennial High School soccer team. His academic achievements include membership in the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society; and being named a National Merit Commended Scholar, an AP Scholar with Honor, and an All-American Scholar. He has also received the Academic Excellence in Pre-AP Chemistry Award and Texas Student Achievement Award from the Texas ACT Council. A three-year starter on the varsity soccer team, he was named District 14-4A Tri-Utility Player of the Year, 1st Team All-District, and received the Players' Choice Award for Leadership On and Off the Field. Additionally, he is a member of the 2008 National Champion US Youth Soccer club team Andromeda U18, has played tournaments in Sweden and England, was selected for the Olympic Development Program soccer team (2003-2005), is currently listed as a "Player to Watch" in TopDrawerSoccer.com, and was selected for the All-Star Team at Notre Dame Elite Soccer Camp. Outside of school, he is an alter server at of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church and a volunteer at the Samaritan Inn Homeless Shelter. His employment activity includes working as a document specialist at TSystem (summer 2008) and as assistant to the Tatu's All Star Soccer Camp director (summer 2006 and 2007). Upon graduation, Grant plans to attend and play soccer for Notre Dame University. Award was presented on behalf of the Texas State Farm® Agents by John Kraft of Plano.

Macie Jean Williams
Shallowater High School (Shallowater, TX)
Graduation Year: 2009
Selected as a recipient of the 2008-2009 State Farm® Texas Scholar Athlete program scholarship, Macie is currently ranked fourth in her class of 98 students and is a member of the Shallowater High School golf and basketball teams. Her academic accomplishments include the All “A” Honor Roll (grades 9-11), the Top 10% Award, and the ACT Scholastic Award; she is also a UIL Regional Qualifier for Editorial Writing (grades 9-11). Additionally, she is a four-year member of the Student Council and is the current Student Council President, a two-year member of the National Honor Society and is the current NHS Secretary, a two-year member of the cheerleading squad, Homecoming Committee Chair, Academic Banquet Chair, is a member of the Newspaper Staff, Yearbook Editor, Project Ignition National Champion Team Member, a member of the UIL Editorial Writing and UIL Computer Applications, and a FCCLA Member. In three years of high school, she has completed more than 1850 volunteer hours. Her athletic accolades include being named District Runner-Up and Regional Qualifier in golf (2008); and District and Bi-District Champions and Area Qualifier in basketball (2008). Outside of school, she is active in the First Baptist Church Youth Group Leadership Team, the Shallowater Historical Society, Teen Coalition Against Destructive Driving, Children's Miracle Network Volunteer Team, and March of Dimes.Her employment activity includes babysitting and working in the First Baptist Church Nursery. Upon graduation, Macie plans to attend Texas Tech University or West Texas A&M University and major in communication disorders. She then plans to pursue a career in pediatric speech pathology.
