About the State Farm^® Texas Scholar Athlete Program

The State Farm^® Texas Scholar Athlete Program recognizes students throughout Texas who exhibit leadership and good citizenship in both academics and athletics.

Scholar Athletes are individuals that actively participate in academic competitions, as well as UIL athletic practices, games and competitions on a daily basis. Most importantly, a scholar-athlete is an individual whose academic progress and success serves as a priority. Students selected for this program are nominated by their high school counselors.

Fifty student-athletes will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship. Selection is based on criteria which include GPA, class ranking, academic achievements, UIL athletic participation, and in extra-curricular activities.

Over the last five years, State Farm^® Insurance has awarded scholarships totaling more than $112,000, making the State Farm® Scholar-Athlete program the largest state wide athletic scholarship program.

To Qualify for the State Farm^® Texas Scholar Athlete, the student must be:

• Graduating with the Class of 2008
• Currently active in at least one UIL high school sport
• Maintaining a 3.0+ GPA or equivalent

Who can nominate the Scholar Athletic?

Only a high school counselor or official can nominate a scholar athlete

How can a parent/guardian participate?

Contact your scholar athlete’s high school senior counselor or official and ask them to submit your student’s qualification.

How will a student know if she/he has been nominated?

The nominating counselor or school official, the nominated student, and his/her parents/guardians will be notified by email when a complete nomination has been submitted.

How will the winner be notified

The nominating counselor or school official, the selected student, and his/her parents/guardians will be notified by letter.

If I win, what do I do?

A time will be set with you, your parents/guardians, and your high school senior counselor or school official for you to be recognized by local media and the local State Farm^® agent.

You will be required to sign a release for State Farm^® to announce your selection and brief bio to media and advertising. If you are under 18 years of age, one of your parents or guardians must sign this release for you.

When will I receive the Scholarship?

On, or shortly after, July 1st 2008 the honored scholar athlete will receive a box with a special one-of-a-kind t-shirt and $1,000 check

How can I use the Scholarship Money?

The $1,000 from State Farm^® can be used however you deem necessary to further your education.
